Security agents have blamed informants for the latest security breach that led to the abduction of scores of commuters along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway Tuesday evening.
That the bandits who attacked the road around 4:20pm were said to have monitored the number of times patrol vehicles roam the 155km stretch of road and had accurately timed the various stops and return times of patrol vehicles.
A senior security officer who spoke with our correspondents said collaboration between informants living in communities along the highway and bandits had led to the security breach.
He said the attack had occurred less than 20 minutes after security patrol vehicles passed the area.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Yekini Ayoku, accompanied by the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, visited the area for an on the spot assessment yesterday morning.
The CP charged security agents to intensify patrol and go after the bandits.
Aruwan had earlier told Daily Trust that the state government could not confirm the number of travellers abducted but said the vehicles on the highway had been moved to a police facility.
That the area between Katari and Kurmin Kare where the attack occurred is regarded as a major flashpoint, where a security post and an amphibian Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) were stationed.
However, security sources said the APC had been moved to Sokoto State for operations before the March 28th attack on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line.
